One COVID-19-related death reported on Sunday

Following a day on which South Dakota saw a record-high death count, one death was reported by the state Department of Health on Sunday.

It was a Kingsbury County man in the 60-69 age range.

There have now been 943 South Dakotans who have died with COVID-19 complications.

There were 700 confirmed cases and 101 new probable cases reported Sunday. There are 16,930 active cases in the state with 544 people hospitalized.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 79,900 cases in the state.

Brown County reported 21 new cases Sunday for a total of 3,609 confirmed or probable cases since March. There were 722 active cases in the Sunday report.

Codington County reported 19 new cases Sunday for a total of 2,635 since the start of the pandemic. There were 484 active cases in the Sunday report.

Minnehaha County reported 207 new cases, while Pennington County reported 139 cases. Day County reported seven new cases Sunday, Spink County reported five and Edmunds reported four.

Statewide, there was an 11.2% one-day positive test rate.

Saturday, 54 COVID-19-related deaths were reported in South Dakota. Thirty-one men and 23 women died, according to the health department. Five deaths were in the 50-59 age range, 11 in the 60-69 age range and 13 were from the 70-79 age range. Twenty-five people 80 or older died.

The Saturday deaths were in Minnehaha (11), Codington (4), Pennington (4), Davison (4), Aurora (2), Buffalo (2), Day (2), Faulk (2), Jackson (2), Lincoln (2), Oglala Lakota (2), Roberts (2), Tripp (2), Turner (2), Union (2), Beadle, Brown, Charles Mix, Grant, Gregory, Hamlin, Hanson, Hutchinson and Walworth counties.

Fifty Codington County residents with the virus have died since the start of the pandemic. There have been 21 deaths in Brown County. There have been 19 deaths in Roberts County, 12 in Walworth, 10 in Faulk and nine in Day.
