Lacey Coronavirus Updates: Diner Staying Open, Case Totals

LACEY, NJ — There's a lot of news to keep up with right now — locally, nationally and worldwide. Here's a recap of coronavirus updates in Lacey.

Cases

The Ocean County Health Department has reported 307 coronavirus cases and 11 deaths in Lacey as of noon Monday. That's an increase in 19 cases and no additional deaths since Lacey Patch's last update July 23.

Officials reported 17 new cases Sunday in Ocean County, bringing the area to 10,471 total cases and 948 deaths.

Testing

Ocean County recently began testing asymptomatic patients July 6 at its Ocean County College drive-thru site.

To schedule a test appointment, Ocean County residents can visit the Ocean County Health Department website at www.ochd.org. If residents have any questions, they can call the Health Department at 732-341-9700, ext. 7411.

  • Urgent Care Now in Lanoka Harbor has coronavirus testing available for all Lacey Township residents. Patients must show a driver's license or government-issued ID showing a Lacey address. MORE.

  • Hackensack Meridian Urgent Care in Forked River can test whether patients were previously infected with the coronavirus. Hackensack Meridian's urgent care centers began antibody testing May 2. MORE.

  • Rite Aid has expanded its self-swab testing to two more Toms River stores. MORE.

Recent Updates

  • State officials ordered the Lakeside Diner to shut down Friday. The restaurant received its fourth citation for allowing indoor dining during the coronavirus pandemic. Owner Brian Brindisi told Patch on Friday that he plans to keep the Lakeside Diner open. The diner was still operating as of Monday morning. MORE.

  • Retro Fitness in Lacey, which has offered free outdoor classes for members, closed for much of the last two weeks. The gym first canceled classes from July 20-24 for a "proactive deep cleaning" and then shuttered Monday through Friday because of recent cases locally and at restaurants in town. They resumed classes Monday. MORE.

  • Captain's Inn in Lacey temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus, the establishment announced July 26. MORE.

During trying times, a small act of kindness in Lacey went a long way. Melissa Grippaldi found a book laying next to her mailbox. It looked like when the Yellow Pages would leave their large phone books on doorsteps.

But then she took a closer look. Someone left a book. Its thick book mark beamed "Hello!" in large letters.

The book mark had a note from "The Bookworm." A mystery good samaritan dropped off some of his or her favorite books on neighbors' doorsteps. MORE.
