CAL CALLS IT

Saturday best bets: Your best tips and NAP for today’s racing at Doncaster as the St Leger Festival continues from Callum Jamieson

IT'S been a very slow punting week on Town Moor.

Things haven't gone our way with the few bets I've had but Saturday is the main event and after already playing my cards in the Leger, I have one up my sleeve in the Portland too.

A MOMENTOFMADNESS (Doncaster, 1.50) ran miles better at York last time when agonisingly pipped out of a place at big odds.

I'm on him again in the opening Portland Handicap, a race he scooted up in last season off 4lbs higher.

His run at York set him up for this perfectly and front-runners have been successful all week at Donny.

He's already been backed and that's never a bad sign for a Charlie Hills sprinter.

Profit and Loss - Using SP*

June: +19.73pts

July: +41.44pts

August: -0.85pts

September: -4pts

So long as he doesn't cut his throat up top I think he will go mighty close to winning this, even if his price has gone a tad and there's no point in backing him each-way in a heat like this with his running style.

he raced far too freely at York with no cover. This track will suit better and he's drawn bang in the middle.

I'm very, very sweet on this one although you do have to fear the favourite Bielsa who could still be miles ahead of the handicapper.

Saturday Bets...

1.50 Doncaster - A MOMENTOFMADNESS 1pt win (Bet now)

3.35 Doncaster - SIR RON PRIESTLEY 0.5pt ew (Bet now)

I've already tipped SIR RON PRIESTLEY (Doncaster, 3.35) for the Leger in another antepost column so I won't spill any more ink on that.

He still looks a terrific each-way bet in my book though, and if you haven't already I'd be jumping on those double figure prices.
