Preparing now for the next pandemic

The lessons we've learned in the global war against the coronavirus pandemic should be used now to help us prepare for the next inevitable health crisis, writes former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Tom Frieden in The Wall Street Journal. He says there are six urgent steps the world needs to take to be more pandemic-proof:

• Identify new outbreaks within seven days, start investigating within one day and strategize an effective response within another seven days
• Boost preparedness funding
• Let global institutions like the World Health Organization do their work
• Increased support from wealthier countries and philanthropies
• More global cooperation that addresses gaps
