A Stockton poet is making a name for himself after getting the “golden buzzer” on NBC’s talent competition “America’s Got Talent.”
Brandon Leake wrote a poem about the death of his baby sister and the love he felt for her. >> See the full poem in the video above.
Before getting on the AGT stage, Leake practiced, going to open mic nights across Northern California.
Leake said people look at poetry and spoken word like a “minor league” art form. However, with him getting fast-tracked to the semifinals of the competition, Leake’s performance could put spoken word back on the map.
Leake will await the call to tape the semifinals later this year. He hopes to perform in front of a live audience this time as the taping of his “golden buzzer” performance was done in front of the judges only due to coronavirus restrictions.
