Area Girls Basketball Roundup: Glencoe-Silver Lake, Monahan scoot past Litchfield

Feb. 24—LITCHFIELD — Led by 23 points from Eastern Illinois recruit Miah Monahan, Glencoe-Silver Lake knocked off Litchfield for a 57-47 girls basketball win Tuesday.

Kendall Guerrero added 14 points for the Panthers, followed by nine from Mylea Monahan in the Wright County Conference game.

The Dragons' Sydney McCann scored a team-high 15 points, including her 1,000th career point. Earlier this year, she became the school's all-time leader in assists.

Lily Osterberg followed up with 11 points, and Maggie Boerema had eight points and 10 rebounds for Litchfield.

The Dragons' next game is 7 p.m. Friday at Watertown-Mayer.

Thirteen players scored for top-ranked New London-Spicer in its victory over Dassel-Cokato at New London.

MacKenzie Rich led the scoring with 13 points. Erin Knisley had 12 points and Emma Hanson 11 for the Wildcats. Knisley, a 6-foot-2 senior post, sprained her ankle and is questionable for Friday's game at Glencoe-Silver Lake, NLS assistant coach Joey Dreier confirmed.

Glencoe-Silver Lake is led by Miah Monahan, who has committed to Division I Eastern Illinois. On Monday, the Wildcats play at Albany. The Huskies are led by South Dakota State recruit Paige Meyer. And on Tuesday, NLS plays at Watertown-Mayer. The Royals' Maggie Czinano is a Minnesota Gophers recruit.

"Three D-1 guards in a row," Dreier said. "It's going to be a heck of a week. Hopefully we can be healthy.".

The Wildcats also have lost senior post Grace DeScheppers to a season-ending knee injury.
