How do you know if you should avoid a used car?
However, there are certain things to be aware of when you’re used car shopping. Particular signs can give away the fact that this car is not, in fact, a good investment for you and you should steer clear. We sat down with our sales specialists to find out what they are and here are the seven things they advised that you look out for.
Sign #1: Obvious accident damage.
If there’s obvious accident damage on the car, beware. You should definitely ask the seller what happened and if they’re planning to make any repairs, but just know that other damage could be lurking below the surface of the car and you may have to pay for it down the road.
Sign #2: Dirty oil.
If the used car you’re looking at has dirty oil, you should definitely think twice. Dirty oil is a sign that the car hasn’t been maintained well and could have developing issues that can cost you in the future. If you want a reliable ride, pop the hood and check the oil before you sign the dotted line.
Sign #3: The smell of cigarette smoke.
Do you smell cigarette smoke or air fresheners in the interior of the car? Our Clermont used car specialists advised us that cigarette smoke smell will never go away, so buyer beware. And if you smell heavy air freshener, it could mean that the seller is trying to cover something up.
Sign #4: Neglect.
