Bartender says Jets GM Joe Douglas delivers big takeout tips during COVID-19 pandemic

Food workers are among the many on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, taking on extra risks for themselves while ensuring the country’s food supply keeps moving.

A bartender in New Jersey recently found himself on the receiving end of appreciation for his effort from an NFL name he didn’t immediately recognize.

A woman on Reddit Wednesday published a receipt showing a $100 tip her boyfriend received on a $101.90 takeout order

‘Super nice guy’

That bartender is 29-year-old Ryan Holsten of Chatham’s River Grille in Chatham, New Jersey. He confirmed with NJ.com on Monday that he indeed received the generous tip. And that it came from New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas.

He told NJ.com that Douglas has made the same order of burgers and kids meals for the last three Sundays. And each time, he says Douglas leaves a $100 in gratuity.

“I was amazed,” Holsten told NJ.com. “Super nice guy.”

Holsten said that he didn’t initially make the connection, but confirmed Douglas as the generous tipper when he did an internet search with his coworkers. He said that he splits the tips with his delivery driver.

Holsten also said that Douglas isn’t the only person who’s taken care of the staff as they brave COVID-19 conditions.

“It’s been pretty tough, but people have been taking care of us,” Holsten said.
