Waltham Boy Scout Troop 250 In Northern Minnesota

Northern Tier High Adventure Base Ely, Minnesota

On Saturday 7/28/2018, 12 Scouts and 4 Adult Leaders from Waltham Troop 250 and Quincy Crew 42 left Logan Airport on Delta Airlines heading for Minnesota. After some leisure time in Minneapolis they drove 5 hours north to the Northern Tier Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base on Sunday to check in and prepare for their Wilderness adventure.

On Monday 7/30/2018 early in the morning they all began their adventure with each crew, along with a Guide called an Interpreter for each, heading out in 6 canoes. Each Troop would be taking different routes in separate groups of three Canoes.

Eric Bergeron and Robert Logan are the leaders for Troop 250: Dean Cooper, Matthew Storer, Tyler Mailman, Peter Marriott, John Schultz and Brian Morvillo.

Ray Theberge and Diane Trubiano are the leaders for Quincy Crew 42: Lucien Theberge, William Barber, Matthew Muldowney, Benjamin Boncaldo. Akima Khuong and Jessica Morabito.

The Scouts will be returning home late Sunday evening with stories, Journals, photos and hopefully a movie documenting their week long adventure in the Great North Woods of Minnesota.

The Northern Tier is one of four Boy Scout High Adventure Bases, the Summit Betchel Reserve in West Virginia, The Florida Sea Base and the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico being the other three.

They will have absolutely no communication, no cell phones allowed but as there are no signals anywhere in the North Woods cell phones would be useless. They do have emergency communication which is required and all of the Scouts attending have gone through 16 hours of Wilderness First Aid Training and certification, why? "Be prepared".
