Florida Reports Fewest New Cases Of Coronavirus In Weeks

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of new coronavirus cases in Florida rose by 4,155 Monday, one of the fewest increases in recent weeks as the number of tests performed n the state surpassed four million.

"If you look at the trends in the state of Florida right now in terms of coronavirus, these are not just blips at this point. These are sustained movements," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis insisted during an education roundtable in Riverview, Florida.

"Our emergency department visits for COVID-like illness are back down to where they were in the middle of June as we started to see the increase," DeSantis said. "If you look at the percentage, or the numbers of patients who were COVID positive, who are in hospitals, you've seen a real significant decline over the last two to three weeks, probably about 30 percent."

The total number of coronavirus cases in Florida climbed to 536,961 from 532,806 cases a day earlier.

Florida health officials reported a total of 8,277 deaths Monday, an increase of 91 deaths from the 8,186 deaths reported a day earlier. State health officials also reported another 131 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in the state.
