Fort Myers Beach. Credit: WINK News. Many people were soaking up the sun and going out on their boats Saturday on Fort Myers Beach to celebrate the Fourth of July. However, because the world is still in the middle of a pandemic, the coronavirus, masks, and of course, social distancing, were still on beachgoers’ minds. “Right now, during a global pandemic, everybody should be concerned but at the end of the day, as long as you are doing your due diligence in social distancing and also wearing a face mask,” said Matthew Schissler who’s visiting from Baltimore. But it was a very nice day so people wanted to enjoy it. “Beautiful weather, social distancing, of course, no coronavirus yet. Things are good,” Schissler said. Corrie Mosley and her family came down from Wisconsin last week and said that the number of people at the beach has exploded as the holiday got closer. “We had pretty much this whole strip to ourselves for a while and this is definitely like six times the amount of people that were here,” Mosley said. Tony Mresch from Detriot is trying to keep his mind off the coronavirus. “I’m trying to get away from corona. I’m trying to not think about it.” But all in all, it seemed like everyone was trying to continue to practice social distancing and keep themselves and their families safe. “We’re just trying to keep it to ourselves,” Mosley said. Schissler said, “I don’t want to get sick, I mean, I’m healthy, young, single, but at the end of the day I don’t want to give anyone that doesn’t deserve it on my way home or anyone I’m going to interact with, at the end of the day.”
