Sam Darnold could run for mayor of New York and probably win right now. The New York Jets rookie quarterback has taken the Big Apple by storm after an impressive display of poise and focus in the team's Week 1 win. Can Darnold do it again? Darnold overcame a pick-6 on the first pass of his career and led the Jets (1-0) to a surprising 48-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Darnold didn't get rattled, showing a calmness that led to him to complete 16-of-21 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in the game. The Jets scored 31 points in the third quarter, the highest-scoring third quarter in team history.
Darnold got help from running backs Isaiah Crowell (102 yards) and Bilal Powell (60 yards) and a solid performance from wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, who caught six passes for 63 yards and a touchdown against the Lions.
The Dolphins (1-0) posted a workmanlike 27-20 win over the Tennessee Titans. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, back in the lineup after missing the entire 2017 season with a knee injury, was solid in his return. Tannehill completed 20-of-28 passes for 230 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wide receiver Kenny Stills had a big game, catching four passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
