Bahrain officials: Blast hits bus carrying police

MANAMA, Bahrain (AP) — Bahraini officials say a blast has struck a bus carrying police as anti-government activists clashed with police on the third anniversary of the uprising in the small Gulf island nation.

The Ministry of Interior said on its official Twitter feed Friday that the explosion happened in Dih. The community is a mainly Shiite village just west of the capital, Manama.

A ministry official near the scene of the blast told reporters that three police officers were injured in the explosion. He insisted on anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

Bahrain hosts the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet. Recent efforts by the government to revive reconciliation talks with opposition leaders have failed to quell simmering unrest.
