Back during May's Miami Grand Prix weekend, Lewis Hamilton drew attention to the FIA's jewelry ban by wearing three watches, eight rings, four necklaces, bracelets, and an earring to a pre-race press conference. While making a point about an earring he cannot remove, he went a step further and alluded to a second piercing, one in a place where he "can't really explain where it is." That anecdote was enough to help push the FIA toward a temporary delay on the more harsh jewelry ban, but Hamilton has now explained to Vanity Fair that the last detail was an exaggeration.

"I was just fucking with it,” the seven time World Driver's Champion reportedly told the outlet, "I don’t have any other piercings anywhere. But I love that there’s this thinking: Shit, has he got his balls pierced?"

While Hamilton may not have any additional piercings, his nose stud is still welded into place as he had previously described in the press conference and, as of now, it not known to have been removed. Hamilton has chosen to race without other pieces of body-mounted jewelry, like his removable earrings, in recent races.

With little to no FIA noise on the subject since very publicly losing the battle with Hamilton and other drivers over what was then implied to be a particularly creative piece of jewelry, the issue appears to be on the sanctioning body's backburner. It's yet another quiet win for the combined voices of Formula 1's drivers over the FIA, a recurring pattern since Hamilton and fellow many-time champion Sebastian Vettel began speaking out more regularly in 2020.
