Oregon health officials reported about 6% fewer reported coronavirus cases last week than the prior week, coinciding with an 8% drop in testing.
Reported cases have fallen for the third straight week, to 8,185 reported Wednesday, down from 10,381 reported during the week ending July 12. At-home testing means the state’s official numbers are dramatically undercounted. But among known tests, the share with positive results is inching downward -- hitting 11.5% Wednesday, about a percentage point below the same time last week.
Hospitalizations are at about the same level they were one week ago, after falling to 355 occupied beds Saturday, climbing to 421 Tuesday, then falling again to 398 Wednesday. Estimates suggest roughly half of those people were not hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms and tested positive upon admission for other treatment.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 856,231 confirmed or presumed infections and 8,174 deaths.
Hospitalizations: 398 people with confirmed coronavirus infections are hospitalized, down two since Wednesday, July 27. That includes 51 people in intensive care, up eight since July 27.
Vaccinations: As of Aug. 1, the state has reported fully vaccinating 2,941,756 people (68.9% of the population), partially vaccinating 301,771 people (7.1%) and boosting 1,719,670 (40.3%).
New deaths: Since July 27, the Oregon Health Authority has reported 113 additional deaths connected to COVID-19.
