Manahawkin man had fake gun, brass knuckles, police say

STAFFORD A Manahawkin man was accused of having brass knuckles and a fake gun in his car during a traffic stop.

Frederick Metzger, 26, was a passenger in a car that was pulled over Wednesday around 11 p.m. for making an illegal turn near Stafford Park Boulevard and Cook Road, police said. An investigation determined Metzger had an outstanding warrant out of Ship Bottom.

Authorities also determined Metzger had a fake firearm that had been altered to look real, brass knuckles, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession, police said.

Metzger was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of an altered imitation firearm, prohibited weapons and criminal mischief. He was also accused of damaging a police car, but authorities did not detail how it happened.

He was taken to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail records showed.
