She added a pair of voluminous waterproof trousers to finish off her perfectly practical ensemble.

The look is a far cry from her normal glamorous, polished self. But rosy cheeks and windswept hair rather suited her.

Once on board the yacht, Pippa even took the wheel for a spell, looking confident as she handled the craft.

Earlier this year her sister also took charge on a yacht, during her and Prince William's tour of New Zealand.

Promising guaranteed excitement both on and off the water, the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week regatta brings the world’s biggest sailing stars and excitement to competitors and spectators alike.

Today is the event's so-called Family Day, and provided another great day of racing under clear skies with a steady south-westerly breeze of 13-17 knots that built to give gusts of 20 knots by the end of the afternoon.

Pippa joined sailors from youth charity UKSA, which offers transformational opportunities to young people.

They focus on three key areas: youth development, schools and groups, and professional training; and say they can give you the inspiration you need to fulfil your potential whether you're new to the water, a maritime professional, or anything in between.

As the event’s official charity, the UKSA is supporting youth sailing at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

One of the charity’s key aims during the week is to raise enough funds to offer every Year Six primary school child on Island (1,600 children) the opportunity to experience water-based sport.

This week a group of sailors all aged 20, whose lives have been transformed through the UKSA, are racing on the UKSA Farr 65 - Albatross - and supported by UKSA ambassador and Paralympic gold medallist Helena Lucas.
