Tom Hanks' son opens up about drug use

USAToday
The second son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson has gone public about his history of drug use.

One thing we've learned about drug addiction over the years: Being from a wealthy family — even a well-adjusted one — doesn't make you immune.

If you need proof, look no further than Chet Hanks, the second son of Oscar-winning actor/director Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson.

"I've been struggling with substance abuse since I was 16 years old," he announced on Instagram last week. "Finally at the age of 24 I decided to get some help. With 50 days of sobriety under my belt, I can honestly say I'm the happiest I've ever been. I'm thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans. I've been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I'm learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human."

Something to be thankful for, indeed.
