WALTHAM - Boston Dynamics ' latest robot is ready to "exceed human capabilities," the Waltham, Massachusetts-based company announced Wednesday. The newest version of the Atlas "humanoid" robot is fully electric and said to be "stronger, more dexterous, and more agile" than its hydraulic predecessor that was recently retired.

In the months and years ahead, we’re excited to show what the world’s most dynamic humanoid robot can really do – in the lab, in the factory, and in our lives,” the company also said.

The new Atlas is still in the research and development phase, but Boston Dynamics expects it to have a broader range of motion and more real-world applications than any of its forefathers.

It has been replaced by a new model, which will be used in automotive manufacturing. A farewell video featured the old machine running outdoors, performing back flips and awkwardly shimmying.
