The NRA avoided another potentially expensive trial by settling with the D.C. attorney general on allegations that its charity arm misused funds.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) settled a suit with the D.C. Attorney General’s Office on Wednesday, concluding a three-and-a-half-year case by promising to reform its troubled charity arm, avoiding a trial.

The NRA reached a settlement on Wednesday in a misconduct lawsuit brought by Washington, DC, Attorney General Brian Schwalb.

The association's foundation was accused of misusing more than $10 million in tax-deductible donations by channeling the money into another organization that would spend it on political activity.
