What you need to know about pronation and supination - maybe the most misunderstood movement pattern in our bodies! Here’s the basics: 👉🏻Our feet can both TWIST and UNTWIST 👉🏻 Twisting, AKA supination, is how we create a rigid lever to push us forward when we walk. 👉🏻Untwisting, AKA pronation, is how we absorb shock with our feet (this helps keep our knees happy). 👉🏻 We need BOTH to walk well (and walking well is one of the best movement gifts we can give to our entire bodies). 👉🏻 If y

Pronation is a subtalar joint motion, not a talocrural / ankle joint motion Yes, if you pronate it will often help you get your knee farther forward because the talus will drop down and in… ..but it does not mean you’re expressing that extra motion at the talocrural joint 🔑 If you feel like your “ankle” mobility improved by improving pronation, then you probably needed pronation, not dorsiflexion Dorsiflexion is not pronation Pronation is not dorsiflexion Yes, these two motions couple with each

Let's continue exploring the movements of the foot! Today, we're focusing on pronation and supination.👣 The key movements of the ankle joint include plantar flexion and dorsiflexion (in the sagittal plane), abduction and adduction (in the transverse plane), and inversion and eversion (in the frontal plane).💡 Combinations of these movements result in three-dimensional motions known as pronation and supination: 🔸Pronation - a triplane movement combining eversion, abduction, and dorsiflexion.

Conor Harris on Instagram: "This works for two reasons: 1.) In order to improve dorsiflexion, your foot HAS TO pronate. There is no way around this if you want genuine pronation and improve what most people think of when it comes to “ankle mobility”. The arch lowering (pronation) creates space in the foot and ankle joints for the shin to move over the foot. 2.) Foot pronation isn’t just simply your arch lowering, it’s actually a relative “twist” between your rearfoot and forefoot. The heel and r

Pronation is a natural movement of the foot that occurs during landing. . As the body weight is loaded onto it, the arch of the foot flattens out and the heel moves outward. . This movement increases elasticity of foot which helps to absorb shock and distribute the impact forces evenly through the foot and leg. . Supination is also natural and refers to movement in which the arch of the foot rises and the heel moves inward. . With this motion foot becomes more rigid, which helps to propel the bo

Pronation is not bad, pronation is required. Great news! That foot pronation that you have and have been told is bad, well it’s simply not true. An ankle that pronates and cannot supinate can create issues, however you can teach a foot how to move. Don’t know how? Check out some of my Tibialis Posterior posts. I don’t like the term over pronator because pronation is a collection of movements not a position you are stuck in. What is really happening is that the calcaneus is living in a position of more eversion so you aren’t actually able to pronate well. Instead we need to restore motion into supination WITHOUT the forefoot coming along for the ride. We can untwist the foot by placing a wedge under the 4th and 5th met which will keep the transverse arch in relative eversion compared to the calcaneus a

Pronation is the base of any outside armwrestling movement. It is also heavily involved in a hook or pressing movement. A strong pronation will allow for better forearm position in relation to the arm allowing more horsepower to be generated through the bicep, back and sidepressure . So here is me playing with 50kg on devon's pronation lift . #armwrestlingtraining #toproll #pronation #pronationlift

We’ve created a new animation showcasing the primary muscles involved in the pronation and supination of the arm. The animation highlights the dynamic actions of the Pronator Teres, Pronator Quadratus, and Supinator, as they work to rotate the forearm. Thank you to all our supporters for making this possible! If you find these animations helpful, consider supporting the project by following the link in our profile or becoming a subscriber here on Instagram. #pronation #supination #forearmmuscles

Hopefully this isn't news but in case it is, 📢📢📢 pronation is a good thing!! Our feet are meant to pronate to absorbshock and adapt to the ground with each step, this is NORMAL! but we also want to be able to control the Rate of pronation and slow things down. Because once we make it to the ball of the big toe, its time to switch things up and move into supination for push off. We love the figure 8 as a way to train supination and pronation against resistance. 🔑 points here: 👍 make sure you

In 2009 when I graduated from physio school, we were being told to fix pronation with orthotics and specific exercises. Over 15 years later we now know pronation is very normal. Some runners pronate excessively, and others don’t. But it’s not something you specifically need to fix with fancy orthotics! We actually need some pronation to help shock absorb during the landing phase of the gait cycle. The only time I try to limit someone’s pronation with an orthotic is if they’re experiencing issues

Supination and pronation occur as the radius rotates around an axis of rotation that travels from the radial head to the ulnar head. The 0-degree or neutral position of the forearm is the thumb-up position. From this position, 85 degrees of supination and 75 degrees of pronation normally occur. In full pronation, the shaft of the radius is rotated across the shaft of the ulna. This is a position of relative stability of the forearm region because the radius (and attached wrist) is braced against
