When adjusted to the firmer setting the lens still zooms easily.The autofocus is fast and has a button to set the desired range of focusing from close to infinity or 3 meters to infinity.The IS is very effective. When looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter button half way you can actually feel the camera and lens get steady in your hands. I shoot everything handheld.The IS has 3 settings, normal, panning or during exposure only.The lens hood has a little sliding window so you can adjust any filters you may be using without having to remove the lens hood. The lens hood also has a lock button that keeps it in place until you push the button to remove it.The mounting shoe can be removed without having to remove the lens from the camera.I like to rotate the mounting shoe up to the top of the lens so I can use it as a lifting or carrying handle.The lens is somewhat heavy but I can carry it for several hours without any difficulty and I have arthritis in my hands and wrists.This lens will focus down to slightly over 3 feet. I have taken pictures of butterflies from about 10 feet away and with only minor cropping produced pictures that match or maybe even exceed my macro lens.The lens is expensive but as they say, “You get what you pay for”, and in this case Customer Reviews
