AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) - Auburn Mayor Ron Anders has tested positive for COVID-19.

City officials say that Anders tested positive for the virus over the holiday weekend and is exercising quarantine protocols and following the orders of his doctors.

“I look forward to getting back to work for Auburn in person in the very near future, once I have tested clear,” Anders said. “I just want to remind everyone to keep your masks on, keep up your social distancing and keep those hands washed, because anyone can be exposed to this virus.”

Monday the Alabama Department of Public Health reported 2,161 new cases, which is far lower than the seven day case average of 3,742, likely due to a break in testing over the holidays.

The Ala. Dept. of Public Health also reports a total of 10,656 tests in Lee County and 75 deaths related to the virus.
