Deer Run Farm, a 77-acre solar-powered equestrian estate near Princeton, New Jersey, will be sold at a live, on-site, no-reserve auction on Oct. 10.

The property, which was listed for $4.8 million on April 22 by Judson R. Henderson and Jane Henderson Kenyon of Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty, will be sold by Miami-based Platinum Luxury Auctions.

At the beginning of 2019, the property’s ownership was transferred to a Florida-based trust associated with a foundation according to property records.

Mr. Henderson said that the original owners bought the property in the 1980s, and up until recently used it as their primary residence.

“They don’t have family here anymore—their kids live on the West Coast, and that’s where they want to be,” he said.

The recently renovated primary residence, a colonial-style farmhouse with a wood and stone exterior, was built in 1894, according to the auction house. In addition to a guest wing, it has six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and two half baths and features four fireplaces, a wet bar, walk-in closets, a library and vaulted and cathedral ceilings.

The estate, which is surrounded by preserved land, also includes a three-level renovated barn, whose open-floor plan is designed for entertaining. It has a great room, a full kitchen, two baths, a gym, a wood-burning fireplace, a wet bar, a built-in wine refrigerator and guest bedrooms.

The property also has a greenhouse; a two-car attached garage; a heated in-ground swimming pool and pool house; a caretaker’s cottage that was built in 2004 and has three bedrooms, two full baths and one half bath; a pole barn; and several other outbuildings.

Equestrian features include three stalls, a tack room and run-in sheds in most of the paddocks.

Set back from the road and protected behind a gated entry, the estate opens to the verdant landscape via a garden, a spa and several patios, according to the listing. It is powered by a field of solar panels and also has a back-up generator.

“It’s a remarkable property,” Mr. Henderson said, adding that it’s rare to find such a large parcel in the borough of Pennington. “It feels like an Audubon preserve. It’s practical, and it’s romantic. It’s naturally landscaped.”

The property, which is in Mercer County, is less than a dozen miles from Princeton’s shopping and entertainment district on Nassau Street and about seven miles from Lambertville.
