We asked Quantum for more insights about why the top three companies in each category finished where they did. Here are Quantum’s insights into their surveys and why they ranked so high.

On Thursday, at its first drive-in socially distanced celebration of 2020, the Dallas Business Journal honored the top 100 places to work in North Texas.

At our 18th annual Best Places to Work Awards, which was hosted this year at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, the winners were honored for being places that value their employees like family, and companies that embrace their core culture and have learned a whole new way of doing business during a pandemic.

We asked Quantum for more insights about why the top three companies in each category finished where they did. Here are Quantum’s insights into their surveys and why they ranked so high.

MICRO SIZE (10-24 employees)

1. Provide Locum Tenens

  • Cross training is mentioned as the most important to their professional development.
  • “I see professional growth and career development opportunities for myself in this organization” was 15 percent more favorable than the average in their size category.

2. KFM Engineering & Design

  • Employees see advantages of being able to learn first-hand from their leaders.
  • The smaller company gives them opportunities they would not get at larger companies.

3. Cariloop

  • The words collaborative, supportive, and caring are the top three words used to describe the company’s culture.

SMALL SIZE (25-49 employees)

1. Beacon Hill Staffing

  • The statement “I clearly understand how my performance is measured” is 18 percent more favorable than the average small company in Dallas.
  • S.M.A.R.T. goal setting was mentioned several times as way of setting clear expectations and helping to reach their goals.

2. Text-Em-All

  • Mentorship is mentioned several times by employees at the most important part of their professional growth and career development – both from mentors and mentees.
  • The statement “When the organization makes changes, I understand why” was their highest scoring item with 100 percent favorability.

3. One Digital Health

  • 100 percent of the company's employees were extremely likely to recommend their company to a friend or colleague compared to 80.48 percent at other like size Dallas companies.

MEDIUM SIZE (50-249)

1. LiquidAgents Healthcare

  • Team dynamics was the company’s highest-scoring engagement category. The category includes items which employees scored 100 percent favorable: “I know I can depend on the other members of my team.” “The people I work with most closely are committed to producing top quality work.” “My immediate coworkers consistently go the extra mile to achieve great results.”
  • Energetic, exciting, and lively were words used to describe the work culture.

2. The Cooksey Branch of Mid America Mortgage, Inc

  • 98.4 percent of employees are highly engaged compared to 80.1 percent of employees at likes size companies in Dallas
  • Employees rated “I see professional growth and career development opportunities for myself in this organization,” 16 percent more favorable compared to other medium-size companies in Dallas. Many employees mentioned coaching as the most important part of professional development and growth in the past year.

3. West Monroe Partners

  • Many employees stated that the career advisors were the most important part of the professional growth and development over the past year.
  • Emergency/crisis management was the highest-rated engagement category. These questions pertained to how the company handled communication and support during the pandemic.

LARGE SIZE (250-999 employees)

1. Ryan, LLC

  • The company’s monthly Team Talk was mentioned most when asked how effective leaders build trust within the organization. One employee description – “Brint Ryan runs his company on transparency and updates the employees monthly with a Team Talk. This is an opportunity for employees to ask questions and make comments to the CEO directly. If Brint does not have an answer, he gets someone who does.”
  • The statement “The benefits offered here meet my and my family’s need” was rated 11 percent more favorable by their employees than other like size Dallas companies.
  • Ryan’s scores improved on every single question from 2019 to 2020.

2. Republic Title

  • “I am proud to work here” is the number one most favorable survey item with a score of 99 percent favorability.
  • “It would take me a lot to get me to leave this organization” is 10 percent more favorable than the average large company in Dallas.

3. Century 21 Judge Fite Company

  • Many employees mention the personal relationship and contacts that are made by the leaders to make sure employees are feeling supported.

EXTRA LARGE SIZE (1,000+ employees)

1. Thomson Reuters

  • Open communication, transparency, and listening were used often when describing how effective leaders build trust.
  • “My job gives me flexibility to meet the needs of both my work and personal life.” was one of their most highly rated questions with 89 percent, with an even split between men and women.

2. Citi

  • The most consistent comment given is that Citi leaders listen to their employees and take action on the feedback.
  • “My opinions seem to count at work” and “The senior leaders of the organization value people as their most important resource.” Both outscored other Extra-Large Dallas companies by more than 10 percent favorability.

3. Accenture

  • The great benefits were the most commonly mentioned reason for why employees would highly recommend Accenture to friends or colleagues.
