Blake Brandwein of Northbrook, Ill. was recently elected as the new President of the Leukemia Research Foundation Board of Directors. Brandwein is Vice President at OEM Hardware Group in Glenview, Ill. and will preside over his first official Board of Directors Meeting December 11.

“Twenty years ago we lost my mother Penny to acute myeloid leukemia and I made a promise then to continue her fight and rid the world of these diseases,” Brandwein said. “I am honored to continue this fight as the new Board President and I look forward to carrying on the legacy of past Board presidents, staff and supporters who have built the Leukemia Research Foundation over the past 73 years.”

Brandwein’s experience with the Leukemia Research Foundation began at a young age. Since his mother’s death in 1999, the Brandwein family has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in her memory to help fuel the Leukemia Research Foundation’s mission.

“There is nothing that touches a patient today that did not have its origin somewhere as an experiment,” Brandwein said. “They all began with investigative research funded by groups like the Leukemia Research Foundation. This is why the Leukemia Research Foundation continues to pursue its mission.”

Brandwein publicly accepted his new position at the Foundation’s 73rd Annual Medical Awards Luncheon held in September. He will serve a three-year term as Board President.
