Two Sacramento County cities are No. 1 and 2 in the nation on a list no one wants to be on.
According to Insurify, a company that helps people compare rates for car and home insurance, Rancho Cordova has the rudest drivers in the country. The city responded with a detailed list of points disputing the survey.
Insurify.com says the rate of drivers in Rancho Cordova being cited for rude behavior is 65 per 1,000, which is 62% higher than the state average.
Citrus Heights comes in at No. 2 — 64 per 1,000.
Ventura is No. 3, followed by Hampton, Georgia, and Petersburg, Virginia, rounding out the top five.
So what does rude behavior include? According to Insurify, it's: failure to stop, improper backing, passing where prohibited, tailgating, street racing and hit-and-run.
Insurify helps people compare home and car insurance, and those categories are disclosed when people apply for car insurance.
The city of Rancho Cordova called the findings "spurious," saying in a Facebook post that the city's own data on traffic violations from police show a much lower rate. And the city said there are more than 19,000 incorporated cities and towns across the country and the study claimed to review less than 5% of that number.
"This is not a representative, scientific or random sample survey. Insurify’s data set is people who applied for insurance with them," the city said.
Where are the most polite drivers in the country, according to Insurify? Somerset and Corbin, both in Kentucky, top that list, both with less than two cases per 1,000 people.
Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Metairie, Louisiana; and Southaven, Mississippi, round out the top five.
