Idaho Family Reading Week is Nov. 18-25, 2020. It is a time when families are encouraged to read together. This year’s theme, “Fun and Games,” will be celebrated at public and school libraries across the Gem State.

“Idaho Family Reading Week celebrates families and the importance of reading together," State Librarian Stephanie Bailey-White said. "It is also a chance for Idahoans of all ages to explore or rediscover everything their local library has to offer, including a wealth of digital resources, as many have come to appreciate during the pandemic.”

While public events are on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, the East Bonner County Library District still encourages people to observe Family Reading Week by reading together. To that end, Youth Services coordinator, Kimber Glidden has set up a special reading challenge. Participants can sign up at ebonnerlibrary.readsquared.com to log their reads and read-to-me time for free books.

“Idaho Family Reading Week is all about promoting good reading habits that create a fun environment and a love of lifelong learning,” Glidden said.

Another great way to observe Family Reading Week or celebrate reading together anytime is to go on a StoryWalk. The library partners with Kaniksu Land Trust, city of Dover, and city of Ponderay to encourage literacy, family, and getting outdoors. Visit a StoryWalk™ at the Dover City Park and McNearney Park in Ponderay for a self-guided walk along a trail with pages from a popular children’s story posted along the way. Stories are updated each month at both locations.

The community can reach out to Kimber for tips on discovering library resources for celebrating Family Reading Week and beyond. Idaho Family Reading Week is sponsored by the Idaho Commission for Libraries’ Read to Me program and supported by libraries across Idaho.

All branches of the East Bonner County Library District and Bookmobile are open at regular hours. Proper face masks are required. Digital materials and curbside pick-up services are available. Visit the updates page at ebonnerlibrary.org for more information.
