Lena Ledford
Lena Frances Smith Ledford, 84, of Cleveland, Tennessee, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at her residence.
She was a native of Aurora, In., and had lived in the Chattanooga area the greater part of her life and she was a member of Dalton Pike Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ledford began her career as a nurse at Erlanger Hospital and continued nursing while into her late 70’s. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and would go out of her way to help anyone in need. She always put everyone else first in her life.
Mrs. Ledford was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gordon L. Ledford in 2007, son, Jimmy Ledford, parents, William Tobe and Alice Nannie Smith, and brothers, John, Joe, J.D., and Charles Smith.
Survivors include her sons, William Mitchell, Ypsilanti, Mi., David and Mary Ann Vaughn, Somerset Center, Mi., Thomas Ledford, Rossville, John and Karen Ledford, Bryceville, Fl.; daughter, Cathy and David Sewell, Cleveland, Tn.; brother, Marvin and Jene Smith, Soddy Daisy, Tn.; sister, Betty and Earl James, Ft. Payne, Al.; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 21, at 12 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Rob Works officiating. Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
