Local baker prepares thousands of desserts for Valentine's Day
You can't take on the sweetest day of the year without a treat for your valentine.
Bakers at Adrienne & Company are getting ready for their busiest day of the year by stocking the shelves with desserts.
"This week we have probably made over a thousand pounds of icing, a thousand cakes, a thousand macaroons," said head baker and owner Adrienne Holland. "Cupcakes, brownies, you name it. We are just really, really busy."
With locations in Old Louisville, Jeffersonville, New Albany and Floyds Knobs, Holland's hands move quickly, not because of a sugar rush, but because of a valentine rush.
"We've gotta make sure we're super duper stocked. We always send more than we think we're going to sell and then we always get that call from the stores saying, 'We need more of that, we need more of this,'" said Holland.
Cookies, cupcakes and brownies are big hits on Valentine's Day but Holland said the doughnut bouquets take the cake.
"Because that's something you present to your loved one and it's cool you can customize them," said Holland.
While Holland makes hundreds of desserts for her customers, helping them lock in their valentines -- she worked on hers too.
Pictures of her muse hang at Holland's decorating station year-round and for Valentine's Day she made a cake for herself, because even a busy baker deserves a valentine.
"It's kind of in my head but Tom Selleck is my valentine," said Holland.
