Garden City Jewelry Store Robbed

The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Oct. 16.

  • Officers investigated a burglary at Gross Jewelers at 4:20 a.m. on Oct. 9. A man broke a front glass panel, entered the store and broke two display cases taking numerous pieces of jewelry before fleeing the scene. During their investigation, officers recovered evidence at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
  • As a result of an investigation on Meadow Street on Oct. 11, officers charged a 25-year-old man from Roslyn for possession of marijuana.
  • Officers and an MTA Canine Officer responded to the Garden City Railroad Station for a suspicious suitcase on the westbound platform on Oct. 11. Upon investigation, the item was deemed non-threatening and was removed from the scene.
  • While on patrol on Stewart Avenue on Oct. 13, an officer saw a vehicle stopped for a red traffic light. When the light turned green, the vehicle did not move. Upon investigation, the officer saw two people sleeping in the car. The driver's foot was on the brake while the vehicle was in drive. With assistance from the Patrol Supervisor, the officer was able to safely wake up the driver and place the vehicle in park. The driver, a 26-year-old man from Hempstead, was then placed under arrest for DWI and impeding traffic.
  • Officers investigated a report of an unknown vehicle leaving the scene after striking and damaging an unoccupied vehicle in Community Park on Oct. 13.
  • As a result of a power outage to a traffic light on Oct. 13, officers conducted traffic at the intersection of Clinton Road and Commercial Avenue.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on 11th Street, a 39-year-old man from Rockville Centre was charged with multiple violations, including driving with a suspended license and a revoked registration.
  • During an investigation of two larcenies from cars on 4th Street and Cherry Valley Avenue on Oct. 14, officers found an unoccupied vehicle running on Hilton Avenue. Officers conducted surveillance and a short time later observed a subject returning to the car. Upon further investigation, the person, a 31-year-old man from West Babylon, was arrested for the incidents on 4th Street and Cherry Valley Avenue and was charged with grand larceny, petty larceny and trespassing.
  • As a result of a traffic investigation on Cathedral Avenue on Oct. 14, officers charged a 52-year-old man from Elmont with driving with four license suspensions, switched license plates and unregistered operation.
  • Officers assisted Garden City firefighters who responded to, and extinguished, a residential electrical service fire on St. James Street South on Oct. 15.
  • Officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department who responded to, and extinguished, a residential fire on Avalon Road on Oct. 15. Neighboring departments assisted the GCFD.
  • Credit cards were reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Kensington Road on Oct. 15.
  • A truck traveling north struck the Cherry Valley overpass on Oct. 15. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Valley Stream, was charged with disobeying bridge clearance signs.
