• Chat me up: Arcade Comedy Theater will present the inaugural episode of its online Funnyside Chats at 9 p.m. Saturday, featuring award-winning television writer Christine Nangle, a veteran of the Pittsburgh improv and sketch comedy community, currently writing for “The Simpsons.”

The chats will feature members of the Arcade community interviewing notable comedians, comedy writers, performers and other arts professionals. Registration is pay-what-you-wish with a suggested $10 donation.

• Dark humor: The Carnegie Mellon International Film Festival is streaming “Corpus Christi,” a darkly humorous Polish film about a young man who impersonates a priest after being rejected from attending seminary, through Friday. Fee is pay-what-you-want with a $5 minimum.

• Cinema at home: Pittsburgh Cultural Trust has launched a new lineup for the Harris @ Home film series, available for streaming through Feb. 15. Titles include “Rock Camp: The Movie,” documentary on program that brings would-be shredders together for lessons with real-life rock stars; “The Reason I Jump,” exploring the experiences of nonspeaking people with autism from around the world; and “The Changin’ Times of Ike White,” about a music prodigy convicted of murder who went off the grid after an early release and acclaimed album.

Home show

• Welcome home: The Washington County Home Show is this weekend at the Washington County Fairgrounds, featuring indoor exhibits, seminars, experts and demonstrations. Hours are 3-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is free. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Kids’ stuff

• At-home exploration: Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and MuseumLab has developed a new series of virtual/remote workshops with more than 100 live classes explore subjects such as making, science, engineering, math, art processes and outdoor exploration. Workshops are designed for specific age ranges: 3-6, 7-10 or 11-14.

Workshops for ages 3-6 and 7-10 use supplies commonly found at home, with a list provided at registration. Workshops for ages 11-14 will ship supplies to each registered participant. Fees vary.

• Bedtime stories: Tony Award nominee Lilli Cooper is the Dream Queen who guides adventurers through “Sleep Squad,” a family-friendly, interactive, virtual theater experience offered by Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Adapted from stories written by kids, the adventures include a visit to a desert island, a dinosaur’s birthday party and an intergalactic nightclub. Available through Sunday, the on-demand production is designed as a new kind of bedtime ritual for kids ages 4-12.

• World’s largest: The plaster cast of the West Portal of St.-Gilles-du-Gard in the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Hall of Architecture is the topic of program at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 3. The world’s largest architectural plaster cast was made directly from the original abbey in the south of France. Topics include the history of the 12th-century abbey, the surrounding region and the abbey’s importance as a stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Music

• Too cool for school: City Theatre Company is offering tickets for the digital premiere of singer/songwriter Jill Sobule’s concert movie, “F***7thGrade.” The world premiere production, described as “a Rock’n’Roll celebration of coming of age and coming out,” was slated as the final show of City Theatre’s 2019-20 season prior to the pandemic shutdown of live performances.

The concert version of the show was staged and recorded over three nights at an outdoor, drive-in venue at Hazelwood Green in front of an invited audience. At-home viewing prices start at $15; to order, visit citytheatrecompany.org.

Theater

• New works: Pittsburgh CLO is releasing a series of newly commissioned works through its “Songs for a New Year” collaborative project. The works are debuting at 5 p.m. each Thursday through Feb. 18 on the organization’s Facebook and YouTube pages, featuring a dance, visual or movement piece scored to a new song.

The first video, “Resolutions,” with music by Sarah Taylor Ellis, lyrics by Meghan Brown and choreography by Stephanie Klemons, was released Jan. 21. This week’s offering is “A Cynic and an Optimist,” with music and lyrics by Matt Schatz and choreography by LaTrea Derome.

Written word

• Go deep: Parsec, a Pittsburgh-based speculative fiction group, is accepting submissions of short stories for its 19th annual “Triangulation” anthology. The group is looking for original, unpublished and unsold fantasy, science fiction and horror stories from non-professional writers.

Theme is “Still Waters, Deep Thoughts.” Deadline is April 15; there is no entry fee. Winners receive cash prizes.
