The success story of Bahrain Grand Prix is a shining example of leadership with vision, noted a senior minister.
The marshals team at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is the human capital which the nation successfully monetised, said Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Al Zayani.
“The Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is a shining example of an organisation built on a team, not on an individual,” said Mr Al Zayani.
He was addressing participants at the opening of the 45th annual International Federation of Training and Development Organisations (IFTDO) World Conference and Exhibition at the Crowne Plaza’s Bahrain Conference Centre on Monday.
The three-day conference, themed ‘Lessons from Leaders’ being held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and organised by the Bahrain Society for Training and Development (BSTD) and Origin Group with support from Tamkeen, ends today.
“In 2004, we enjoyed our first Formula One race. Prior to this we knew nothing about F1 or motor sport,” said Mr Zayani, in his key note address on the topic “Leadership Role in Developing Bahraini Talents.”
“Today, 12 years later, we are proud of the Bahraini team which started with nothing and was made up of volunteers who worked very hard.
“The team not only succeeded in organising 12 Grand Prix in Bahrain but also ran the debut Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi (2009), India (2011) and is organising the fist-ever race in Azerbaijan this July.”
“We managed to take a group of young motivated boys and girls and turn them into a team and an industry and we are getting paid for it,” said Mr Al Zayani.
“This is the true example of a leadership with vision.
“Leadership was all about creating more leaders,” he said. Energy Minister Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, speaking on Leadership and Change Management, urged governments to be proactive and target manpower.
“Training is an essential factor in any public or private organisation,” Mr Al Zayani told the GDN.
The conference has brought together 400 representatives from 36 countries and 20 exhibitors from training and human resources development field.
