It's a big day for

as he is being promoted to the rank of major general.

Saxe, who holds a dual-hatted role, also serves as commissioner for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

As commissioner, he develops and coordinates policies, plans and programs for the department.

Brig. Gen. Torrence Saxe started his military career in 1995 entering the U.S. Air Force after graduating from the Officer Training School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

He joined the Alaska Air National Guard in 2004 and served in positions at Clear Air Force Station, Eielson AFB, and JBER; and was commander of the 213th Space Warning Squadron, 13th Space Warning Squadron, 176th Maintenance Group, and 168th Wing.

The Alaska National Guard’s commander-in-chief, Gov. Mike Dunleavy, will preside over the promotion ceremony for Brig. Gen. Torrence Saxe.

In 2018 Brig. Gen. Torrence Saxe was promoted to his current role.

Brig. Gen. Torrence Saxe has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Achievement Medal, and the Combat Readiness Medal.
