FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland announced the appointment of Eugene Savaria to the vacant trustee position at the Jan. 21 village board meeting. Savaria had been serving as the village clerk since June 2019, but the village said he resigned from his village clerk position and took the oath of office from Holland at the board meeting.

Savaria will serve as village trustee until the term expires in 2021.

According to the village, Savaria served on the Frankfort plan commission from 2017 until his appointment to village clerk in 2019. He works in global risk oversight for Bank of America, and has a Finance degree from UIC and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Savaria and his wife, Jeri, and three children have lived in Frankfort for over 24 years. The village said he has been active in the Frankfort community and has volunteered for the Fall Fest entertainment tent and in the building of Fort Frankfort at Commissioners Park.

“Nine well-qualified candidates applied for the trustee position. After careful consideration and review by me and the trustees, I am pleased to appoint Gene Savaria to the position of trustee. Gene’s village, community and business knowledge bring unmatched experience and a variety of management skills and decision making abilities to our board. His sense of volunteerism characterizes the spirit of the Frankfort community. The other trustees and I have confidence that Gene will represent all citizens of Frankfort well,” Holland said in a release.
