COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Heads up! Parts of the Midlands will see showers this evening. However, some sleet/wet snowflakes could also mix in. Then, temperatures will plummet by Tuesday morning.

Weather Headlines:

- First Alert Tonight and Tuesday with a chance of a wintry mix this evening in the Midlands.

- Showers are expected, along with some sleet and/or wet snowflakes mixed in at times.

- No accumulations are expected at this time, but we’ll keep an eye on the radar.

- Cold temperatures overnight will lead to icy spots Tuesday morning.

- Clearing skies and warmer temperatures as we move through the week

- Rain returns by Friday and perhaps a thunderstorm. Friday is an Alert Day.

First Alert Weather Story:

As we move through your Monday evening and night, expect showers across the Midlands as an upper level low approaches the Palmetto State. There will be enough cold air aloft that some sleet and/or wet snowflakes could mix in with some of the rain.

No accumulations are expected as this time. Temperatures are expected to stay above freezing for most areas this evening as the moisture falls.

However, by early Tuesday morning, be careful. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s. Any lingering moisture on the roads, bridges and overpasses will likely freeze, causing those surfaces to be slick.

Big improvements as we move through the week with warmer temperatures Tuesday through Friday. Our next chance of rain arrives Friday. Some of the rain could be heavy at times, and we could see an isolated thunderstorm. That’s why we’ve declared Friday as an Alert Day. Rain is also possible into Saturday.

Forecast:

Monday Night: Cloudy Skies. Rain/Sleet/Snow Mix (40-50%). Low temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Winds: N 5 mph.

First Alert Tuesday: AM Icy Spots. Then, Sun & Clouds. Mild. Highs in the lower 50s. Winds: W/NW 5-10 mph.

Wednesday: Sun & Clouds. Highs in the lower 50s. Winds: W/SW 5-10 mph.

Thursday: Mostly Cloudy and Mild. Highs in the mid 50s.

First Alert Friday: Rain Likely (70%). Some of the rain could be heavy. Isolated storm possible. Highs in the low 60s.
