Authorities began searching the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and Lake Superior on Friday for someone who might have occupied an inflatable boat that was recovered around the shore of Otter Island.

The National Park Service recovered the dinghy on Friday during calm water conditions, according to a news release from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office. The park service and the sheriff's office conducted ground searches on Friday and Saturday on and around Otter Island.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, with the park service's help, searched surrounding islands. The U.S. Coast Guard conducted water searches overnight on Friday and until daybreak, the release said.

The search was suspended Saturday afternoon due to dangerous weather. Authorities have yet to find a person connected to the craft. The Ashland County Sheriff's Office asks that people call 715-682-7023, option 1, if they have any information regarding the incident, are missing a dinghy or know of an overdue boater.
