SOUTHWEST, Fla. — As of Thursday, the Florida Department of Health has reported more than 1,000,000 positive coronavirus cases.
That makes Florida the third state to hit that number, behind Texas and California.
The DOH reported Thursday that the total number of coronavirus hospitalizations in Florida is now at 55,820.
But how is that possible with more than1,000,000 positive cases?
First, it’s important to understand that this number dates back to the start of the pandemic.
According to the DOH, more than 530,000 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 were not hospitalized.
Many of them could have been ordered to quarantine at home.
Let’s take a closer look at coronavirus numbers in Lee County.
On July 31, Lee Health reported 203 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19.
Fast forward to the first week of November, that number dropped to 81.
It increased again just before Thanksgiving, and as of Thursday, December 3rd, it rose to 154 total hospitalizations.
The Department of Health reports the total number of people who live in Florida with confirmed COVID-19 cases that have died each day.
On November14th, the state reported 61 deaths.
On December 1st, there were five deaths reported.
In total and as of Thursday, 18,874 people died a COVID-related death in Florida.
If you’re keeping a close eye on positivity rates, Lee Health reported a 24% positivity rate on November 2nd.
As of December 3rd, that number dropped slightly to 23.8%.
For clarification, positivity rates are calculated based on people who actually get tested.
