Pond Creek-Hunter will put both its No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press Class C poll and co-leadership of District C-1 on the line when the 5-0 Panthers host 3-2 Sharon-Mutual at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Panthers and Trojans stand alone at 2-0 in the C-1 race after the Panthers shut out Balko, 46-0 and the Trojans upset No. 4-ranked Tyrone, 60-32.

The two teams will be pitting strength against strength.

Pond Creek-Hunter, which has posted three shutouts this season, has allowed only 37 yards per game rushing. Sharon-Mutual is averaging 373.8 yards per game after rushing for a season-high 556 yards against Tyrone.

Sharon-Mutual quarterback Alex Carter has scored 20 touchdowns this season and has thrown for four more. Eight have come on plays of 50 yards or more, including touchdown runs of 71 and 70 yards against Tyrone last week. Gabe Sessoms has added eight touchdowns.

Pond Creek-Hunter is averaging 251.8 yards per game rushing and another 52.6 yards passing. The Panthers have not thrown an interception in 38 attempts. The numbers might have been even more impressive if not for the Panthers having four of their five wins by the 45-point mercy rule.

PC-H's Noah Miller scored four touchdowns in a 46-0 win over Balko last week to boost his total to 11 for the season.

Quarterback Jake Ronck has thrown for five scores. Nine different players have scored for the Panthers this season.

Pond Creek-Hunter leads the series, 3-1, including a 44-14 win last season.

Bridge Creek (2-3, 1-1) at Kingfisher (3-2, 2-0) — The homestanding Yellowjackets moved up from No. 10 to No. 9 in the 3A poll after rallying past winless Mannford, 29-14 last week. The Yellowjackets came back from a 14-0 deficit. Kingfisher quarterback Cade Stephenson has run for eight scores and thrown for another nine — including four to Kenton Abercrombie. Caleb Dick has scored six touchdowns this season. Bridge Creek beat St. Mary's, 37-6 last week to break a three-game losing streak. The Yellowjackets lead the series, 3-0, including a 49-7 rout last season.

Cashion (5-0, 2-0) at OCA (1-4, 0-2) — Cashion retained its No. 1 ranking in Class A by routing Elmore City, 44-0 for the Wildcats' second shutout of the season. OCA fell to Mooreland, 66-28 last week for its third straight loss. It has allowed 56 or more points in all three of those losses. Cashion won last year's game, 68-19.

Luther (5-0, 1-0) at Hennessey (0-5, 0-2) — No. 10 Luther had an open date last week. The Eagles are looking for their first win under new coach Paul Hix. They were shut out for the third time this season — 58-0 by Perry last week. Luther had its biggest offensive production of the season in a 51-0 rout of Newkirk on Sept. 27. It was the Lions' first shutout of the season. Hennessey leads the series, 5-0 since 2009, including four playoff wins and a 28-22 squeaker last season.

Perry (4-1, 1-1) at Alva (2-3, 1-1) — The Goldbugs try to come back from a 57-12 loss to Chisholm last week. It was the most points Alva has given up since a 69-20 loss to Oklahoma Christian Schools in 2014. Quarterback Kaden Slater did hook up with Reece Martin on touchdown passes of 70 and 31 yards. Perry had its most productive game of the season in the 58-0 rout of Hennessey. It was Perry's first shutout of the season. Alva leads the series, 18-12 since 1970, including a 20-19 squeaker last season.

Texhoma (4-2, 1-1) at Mooreland (5-1, 0-1) — Mooreland is coming off a 66-20 win over Oklahoma Christian Academy. That was the most points by a Bearcat team since a 69-6 win over the Enid JV in 1999. A win gives the Bearcats their first winning season since 2015. Theo Sutton scored three touchdowns last week. Texhoma had a four-game winning streak broken by No. 8-ranked Thomas, 16-8 last week. Texhoma has won the last three meetings and leads the series, 23-9 since 1973. Texhoma shut out Mooreland, 33-0 last season.

Woodward (2-3, 1-1) at Guthrie (2-3, 1-1) — The visiting Boomers are coming off a 56-20 loss to now No. 1 McGuinness. Daniel Fraire (9-yard run), Parker Pruett (12-yard run) and Drake Parker (17-yard pass from Shawn Chase) scored Woodward's touchdowns. Guthrie broke a three-game losing streak by beating Guymon, 48-7 last week. Guthrie has won the last nine meetings, including 38-6 last season. The Bluejays lead the series, 16-14 since 1976.

8-man

Balko (2-2, 0-2) at Timberlake (3-2, 1-1) — Timberlake moved into the Class C rankings (No. 5) after upsetting previously No. 5 Boise City, 40-36 last week. The Tigers had nearly perfect balance with 186 yards rushing and 185 yards passing. They did not have a turnover for the first time this season. Timberlake is averaging 156.6 yards passing and 125.8 yards rushing. J.J. Pippin has scored six TDs for the Tigers while Devon Kent and Dylan Schlup have scored five apiece. Ethan Jenlink has thrown for six touchdowns and thrown for three more. Balko, after starting the season 2-0, has fallen to Class C power Tyrone, 54-8 and Pond Creek-Hunter, 46-0 the last two weeks. Timberlake has won the last three meetings, including 48-28 last season. Balko leads the series, 6-3.

Canton (4-2, 0-0) at Laverne (4-1, 0-0) — District B-1 opener for both teams. Laverne made it back to the top five in Class B (No. 5) after beating previously No. 4 Cherokee, 60-34 last week. Laverne quarterback Peyton Freeman has thrown for nine touchdowns and has run for 12 touchdowns. Canton is trying to break a 29-game district losing streak. Canton's last district win was over Pioneer in 2014. Canton is coming off a 42-22 win over Waukomis behind quarterback Claysen Scott's three touchdown passes and three scores by Josh Edwards in its first game under Caleb Howell after Jeremy Brashears resigned as head coach.

“I can tell you that it was nothing illegal or immoral from Coach Brashears and that he resigned his position,” Canton Superintendent Daniel Ingram said Tuesday. Ingram said the school board will wait until the end of the season to make any decision on whether it will keep interim Howell at the position or open it for hire.

Laverne has won the last nine meetings and leads the series, 16-5 since 1982. Laverne won last season 66-16.

Medford (1-4, 1-1) at Bluejacket (2-4, 0-2) — Medford, held to 18 points in its first three games, has scored 114 points the last two games. The Cardinals broke a four-game losing streak by shutting out Welch, 64-0 last week. Tate Schuermann caught three touchdown passes and scored another on a pass interception. Bluejacket is coming off a 48-0 loss to C-3 rival Covington-Douglas. The series is tied 3-3 with Medford winning the last two meetings, 74-36 and 48-0.

Okeene (1-4) at Beaver (0-6) — Both teams have struggled as 8-man independents with Okeene having lost four straight after beating Maud, 28-6 on Aug. 30 and coming off a 70-46 loss to Wellston. The Dusters have been outscored 312-32. They had their highest scoring output of the season in a 54-20 loss to Turpin last week. Beaver has lost 34 straight games since beating Stanton County (Kan.), 19-15 in 2016. Okeene has won the last nine meetings and leads the series, 11-1 since 1980.

Waynoka (3-2, 1-1) at Boise City (4-1, 1-1) — Boise City dropped out of the AP rankings after falling to Timberlake 40-36 last week for its first loss of the season. The 36 points were the fewest the Wildcats have scored this season. Waynoka is coming off a 32-30 win over Buffalo. Railroaders quarterback Caden Olson has thrown for 13 touchdowns. Waynoka is looking for its first back-to-back wins of the season. The Railroaders have won the last three meetings, including 22-16 last season and lead the series 6-5 since 2008.
