Corpus Christi reports spike in tourism for Fourth of July weekend

On this Fourth of July eve, North Beach already had a large crowd of visitors from all parts of the state.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau, the local hospital industry and area restaurants are all getting ready for what they hope will be a busy and profitable Fourth of July.

Hotels and motels in and around Corpus Christi are already booked up, and the fact that the tourists are choosing the Coastal Bend for their holiday destination makes the Convention & Visitors Bureua, also known as Visit Corpus Christi, very happy.

"Corpus Christi is one of those places where a lot of people love the beach, a lot of people love outdoors and our city has so much to offer when it comes to that," said Elvia Aguilar of Visit Corpus Christi.

A check of the city's beaches is proof positive of that. On this Fourth of July eve, North Beach already had a large crowd of visitors from all parts of the state.

When visitors come they need places to stay.

"Fourth of July 2019 has been treating our hotel very well," said Blanch Cadelaria Morris, director of sales for Omni Hotel.

At the Omni, the "no vacancy" sign has already been lit.

"Typically what we see is our clientele waiting kind of until the last minute to book those rooms but we've been pretty full early on, and so we knew that we were going to have a lot of people coming to our area for the Fourth of July," Morris said.

Morris said the hotel has seen an uptick in the number of reservations for rooms during the Fourth of July weekend, and a check with other shoreline and Bayfront hotels concur -- their numbers are up as well.

And with more attractions like the Mayor's Fourth of July fireworks, the parade and other fun activities, the folks at Visit Corpus Christi said the bottom line will reflect the increase in the tourist trade.
