Birmingham Municipal Runoff Results: Incumbents Defeated

J. T. Moore​, Latonya Tate​, Jason Meadows​ and Sherman Collins, Jr​. are the projected winners in Tuesday's runoffs.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The runoff elections for Birmingham City Council and the Birmingham Board of Education resulted in projected wins by J. T. Moore and Latonya Tate for council seats, and Jason Meadows and Sherman Collins, Jr. for school board seats. Three incumbents lost their races Tuesday.

Moore is the projected winner of the Birmingham City Council District 4 runoff, defeating incumbent William Parker. Moore, a longtime local activist, received 58 percent of the vote. Parker, the current Birmingham City Council president, had served on the council since 2013.

In District 9, Tate — the Alabama Justice Initiative CEO — is projected to have won the council seat over incumbent John Hilliard with 52 percent of the vote, while the District 9 Birmingham Board of Education seat winner is projected to be Jason Meadows, who defeated Le'Darius Hilliard with 72 percent of the vote.

The Board of Education District 1 seat projected winner is Collins, in the closest race of the night. Collins unofficially received 394 votes to incumbent Doug Ragland's 385 votes.

Final official results can be viewed on the Birmingham City Clerk site. The results are projected results until they are certified.
