The Covenant women's tennis team dispatched another USA South opponent with ease on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Scots defeated William Peace 9-0 at the Ragland Tennis Courts in Raleigh.
The victory was Covenant's third straight and moves the Lady Scots to 5-3 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference action. The Lady Scots have won all three USA South matches by 9-0 scores. William Peace drops to 0-3 on the year both overall and in league play.
Covenant was scheduled to play Meredith earlier on Saturday, but rain in North Carolina on Friday resulted in soggy court conditions. Still, Covenant was able to travel up the road and face William Peace.
The Lady Scots dropped just three points total in doubles play. No. 1 pair Madeline Hyatt and Sarah Carter won 8-2 and No. 2 tandem Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger took an 8-0 victory. Molly Peele and Lindsay Geving tallied an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Covenant had little difficulty with the host Pacers. Hyatt won her No. 1 match with Zoe Littman 6-0, 6-4. Rowe and Carter each produced 6-1, 6-0 victories at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively, while Gracie Smith and Ellen Kirkpatrick secured shutout wins and Nos. 5 and 6. Luger downed Abigail Nails 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Covenant will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to face Maryville. Matches begin at 2 p.m.
