Roselectronics Holding of Rostec State Corporation has organized a high-speed tropospheric communication line between Gorno-Altaisk and the popular among travelers Seminsky Pass, located at an altitude of 1717 meters. As part of the field tests, a stable data transfer rate of more than 22 Mbit/s was obtained.

The pilot zone of tropospheric communication was deployed by order of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Altai Republic on the basis of the Groza stations developed by the NPP Radiosvyaz of the holding Roselectronics. The data transmission technology used in the "Thunderstorm" is based on the reflection of the signal from the troposphere – the lower layer of the atmosphere. The equipment includes an antenna with a diameter of 150 cm, as well as a high-speed digital modem for tropospheric communication. To organize a communication line, two receiving and transmitting stations are required.

The equipment developed by Roselectronics is characterized by low power consumption, ease of deployment and operation. "Groza" is intended for the organization of wireless broadband communication in mountainous, inaccessible and sparsely populated areas, along highways and railways, as well as at remote industrial facilities.

"A mountainous area with a difficult climate was chosen for the organization of the pilot zone. The conducted experiment demonstrated the ability of the "Thunderstorm" to work stably even in extreme conditions. According to the results of the tests, we received positive feedback from the customer. High–speed tropospheric communication is a completely new technology that is a cost-effective alternative to satellite communications. We are ready to provide remote areas of the Altai Republic, as well as other regions of Russia with broadband data transmission channels," said Rinat Galeev, Director General of NPP Radiosvyaz.

The project to organize the production of tropospheric communication stations "Groza" is being implemented by NPP Radiosvyaz with the support of the Industrial Development Fund (FRP, managed by VEB.RF).
