Out & About: Regional juried art show opens at Ligonier museum
There’s a good working relationship between the Southwestern Pennsylvania Council for the Arts and the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley. This is the 16th consecutive year that the museum has hosted the council’s Annual Regional Juried Exhibition, now in its 24th year.
At a Nov. 16 opening reception, SWPCA board president Susan Kiren lauded the quality and diversity of the featured artworks, while board member Kathy Longacre praised SAMA site coordinator Kristin Miller for her expertise in hanging the show.
“I’m impressed with how well they’ve displayed the show,” Longacre said. “Kristin did a really nice job.”
And Miller had some exceptional material to work with, chosen by juror Jason Ward, an exhibiting artist himself and adjunct professor at the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster.
Running through Feb. 2, the exhibition features works by artists from the 19 southwestern counties of Pennsylvania.
It was a packed house on opening night. Seen in the throng: Bill Kiren, Sue and Vince Hrubes, Arlene Kendra, Bill and Bonnie Hoffman, Lauren Buches, John Mickinak, Lana Kalp, Bill and Peg Panasiti, Anita Manoli, Keith and Shirleah Kelly, Tom Niggel and Paul, Mandy and Clair Sirofchuck.
