TACOMA, Wash. — An Army soldier from Roy, Utah, was killed on base near Tacoma, Washington, in an incident not related to training, The News Tribune reported.

Skyler Oliver, 24, died on Saturday, Oct. 17, and officials announced his death on Thursday. As is standard procedure, his cause of death is under investigation by the Army criminal investigation command, Associated Press reported.

The solider was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and served with the 1-2 Stryker Brigade, 7th Infantry Division, the Associated Press reported.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Courtney Oliver and his two young children, The News Tribune reported.

His mother, Janet Oliver, said he joined the army in August of 2018 and described him as a loving husband and father and a "cheerful outdoorsman," The News Tribune reported.
