TBI Adds Man Wanted For Scott County Murder To State's Top 10 Most Wanted List

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday added a man wanted for a murder that occurred in Scott County, Tn. Tues morning to its Top Ten Most Wanted List in an effort to locate him and take him into custody.

Josiah Samuel Jones, 29, with a last known address of 611 Luther Phillips Road, Helenwood, Tn., is wanted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office on one count of first degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. On Tuesday morning, Jones shot and killed Gerald Ray Voiles with a shotgun at the Scott County Homeless Shelter on Jeffers Road in Huntsville, Tn. Witnesses saw Jones with the shotgun and also reported seeing him leave the scene in a white Ford truck belonging to another individual. That truck was later found at the subject’s father’s home along with a shotgun. It was reported that Jones admitted to his father he “killed a man this morning.” His bond on Tuesday’s warrants has been set at $1,000,000.

Jones was convicted in 2008 of a felony involving a deadly weapon in Scott County. He also has a criminal history that dates back to 2002 and includes drug possession, theft, probation violation, vandalism, aggravated assault, DUI and false reporting.

Jones is described as a white male with black hair, brown eyes, and is currently clean shaven. He is 5’11,” weighs 245 pounds, and has tattoos on both arms. He is currently driving a white 2011 Nissan Frontier with brown pin stripes, front end damage and a Tennessee license plate tag 367-PJL. It is possible he has left the state of Tennessee. Jones is considered armed and dangerous and should be approached with caution. 

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Josiah Samuel Jones is urged to call the TBI at 800 TBI-FIND. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
