Inmate admits to burning corrections officer in Indiana County

INDIANA, Pa. — An inmate at a state correctional facility in Indiana County pleaded guilty Tuesday to burning a corrections officer with scalding liquid.

According to the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office, David Henry pleaded guilty to two felony counts of aggravated assault on corrections officers. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 22.

Officials said while incarcerated at SCI Pine Grove on Aug. 11, Henry threw scalding hot liquid onto a corrections officer, causing minor burns. The corrections officers were making preparations to remove items from his cell which he was not permitted to have.

“My office will always stand with the men and women who clock in their hours at our county jail and the state prison. We ask them to provide supervision, treatment and education to the inmates. Unfortunately, there are inmates like this defendant who would rather assault the Officers than accept their help” District Attorney Bob Manzi said. “Our Corrections Officers deserve to go home each and every night unharmed by the inmates they supervise. If they are assaulted, we will prosecute the offenders.”
