SODUS POINT, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York state police say an Amherst man and his son had to be rescued after falling into freezing water about 45 minutes northeast of Rochester.

Authorities say Jason Brudz and his son Fisher fell into a cove in Sodus Point just after noon on Sunday.

First responders attempted to rescue Brudz by entering the water but were unsuccessful.

Later, crews from the Alton Fire Department rescued the man and his son via rescue boat.

Jason Brudz is recovering at Rochester General Hospital, while Fisher is recovering at Newark Wayne Hospital.
