Man Accused Of Assaulting Group With Spray At Marina: Stamford PD

The arrest stems from an incident in which a white man was seen on video shouting at a group of young Black men at a marina in Stamford.

STAMFORD, CT — A man faces assault and other charges in connection with a recent incident at Cove Island Marina. Police began investigating after a video in which a white man shouts at a group of young Black men about launching a boat, then calls the Stamford Police Department, began circulating on social media.

Police announced Friday that Steven Michael Dudek, 57, has been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened June 20 at Cove Island Marina.

“During this incident, Dudek approached a group of males regarding alleged unauthorized use of a boat ramp,” Lt. Thomas Scanlon wrote in a news release. “There was a verbal confrontation between the group that included comments of racial connotation. This incident then escalated into an assault with a chemical spray against four individuals.”

Dudek was charged with four counts of second-degree assault, first-degree intimidation based on bigotry and bias and second-degree falsely reporting an incident. Dudek, who turned himself on an arrest warrant, was released on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 31.
