UNC, NC State football families will be allowed to attend football games

Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill both said Friday that parents of players will be allowed to attend upcoming football games despite statewide COVID-19 restrictions.
Annabelle Myers, assistant athletics director for communications at N.C. State, said parents will be allowed at Saturday's game against Wake Forest. The school is working on specifications and will release more information soon.
Jeremy Sharpe, director of UNC football communications, said parents of players at UNC will also be able to attend games, although Saturday's game is canceled because the Charlotte 49ers said too many players there are quarantined.
For future games, each UNC player will be given two tickets to share with family.
Family members of N.C. State players sent a petition of nearly 100 signatures to Gov. Roy Cooper on Thursday asking for an exemption to the state’s mass gathering rules, which limit outdoor gatherings to 50 people.
The petition asserts that less than 500 family members would attend the game and that Carter-Finley Stadium has enough room for them to social distance. The stadium can seat more than 50,000 fans.
The Wolfpack season is starting a week later than originally planned due to a coronavirus cluster that impacted athletes.
